Surgical Dentistry

It is a branch deals with surgical management and treatment of teeth and surrounding jaw bones.

Extraction of Wisdom tooth

  • Wisdom teeth are the third and last molars( teeth) to erupt in oral cavity( mouth).
  • They usually erupt in their last teenage (17-25 years)
  • They may not come in normally because it has lack of space in your mouth.
  • Your risk of getting cavities and gum disease in the back of your mouth is higher if you keep your wisdom teeth because its hard to brush and floss that part of your mouth
When to be Removed

If teeth are impacted, swelling & tenderness/ pain many occur in the area of 3rd molar/back of the teeth.

During wisdom tooth extraction, your dentist will be given an injection of Local Anesthesia to numb the tooth , surrounding area & makes an incision/cut in gum tissue to expose the tooth & bone. A small piece of the bone covering the teeth may also need to be removed & tooth may be cut into smaller parts to make it easier to remove through the opening.

Gum Diseases

  • It’s typically caused by poor brushing & flossing habits that allow plaques (a sticky film of bacteria) to build up on the teeth & harden.
  • In early stages, gum disease can lead to bleed while brushing, redness of gum, pain while chewing & can also lead to tooth mobility
  • Treatment includes professionally cleaning the pockets around teeth to prevent damage to surrounding bone.
  • Advanced cases may require flap surgery’s or pocket reduction surgery by bone graft.

Flap Surgery

During this procedure gums are lifted back & tartar (hard debris) is removed. In this method we can reduce the areas where harmful bacteria can grow.

Bone Graft

This procedure involves using pieces of your own bone, artificial bone or donated bone to replace distroyed bone by gum disease. There by it restores stability to tooth.

This procedure involves smoothening & reduction of bridge. Commonly it is done after tooth extraction or stand alone procedure intended to prepare a patient for denture or dental implant.

Pus & Abscess Drainage

A dental abscess is a localized collection of pus( debris, infected bacteria & micro organisms) associated with a tooth.

They can caused due to tooth decay, broken teeth & gum disease.

The dentist will make a small cut into the abscess, allowing the pus to drain out & then wash the area with saline followed by antibiotics.
